Quilting patterns from Helen Squire, quilt teacher and author of the Dear Helen books

Welcome!
As a quilt teacher, designer of quilting patterns, guest lecturer, auctioneer, and Q & A columnist for three decades, Helen Squire has the experience to answer your questions on quiltmaking. From her early quilting book, Dear Helen, Can You Tell Me…?, to the Helen’s Hints column in American Quilter magazine, she has continued to provide quilting advice and quilting designs for today’s quilters in her own unique style.

Helen’s “historical” one hour lectures on quilting are often called “hysterical”! Her informative facts about quiltmaking are presented in a humorous, light-hearted manner meant to entertain, as well as educate, today’s audiences by acknowledging the talents and skills of yesterday’s quilters. Choose from two titles, “If Quilts Could Talk - Would We Listen?” or the traditional “Quilt Appreciation: How Quilting Makes the Quilt.”

From beginner student to professional quilter, everyone wants to know more about quilting patterns! Helen’s quilting classes (and her quilting books) provide students with patterns useful for hand quilting, as well as the continuous line quilting patterns useful for machine quilting, including long arm machine quilting. As an experienced quilt teacher, Helen Squire can custom-plan her classes to the needs and skill level (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) of your individual group, guild, retreat, get-together, and/or quilt show and quilt convention.

All day workshops, as well as half-day lectures/demonstrations are available. Choose from among four classes on quilting designs, including the more universal “Let’s Talk About Quilting UFOs”, a great crowd-pleaser with active audience participation.

See the Lectures section of our site or call 1-800-845-9155 for information about bringing Helen to your area to give lectures, teach quilting classes, and provide workshops to your group.

Quilting patterns from Helen Squire, teacher. From her earliest quilt books in the Dear Helen series, Helen has provided quilting designs and advice to today's quilters in her own unique style. Helen Squire is well known for her six books in the Dear Helen series of quilting patterns. The American Quilter’s Society has released two companion CD-ROMs entitled Create & Print with Helen Squire: Hand & Machine Quilting and Helen’s Print & Use Quilting Patterns. These CD-ROMs are in response to quilters nationwide asking for additional sizes and reversed repeats of their favorite quilting designs. See the Products section of our site for information about each of Helen’s quilting books and CDs.

Combining her quilting experience with entrepreneurial skills, Helen has valuable credentials for her industry. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Helen opened one of the first quilt shops on the East Coast in 1976. Quilt-In, specializing in quilting lessons, supplies, and quilting designs, was followed by Mail-In, which was Helen's mail-order catalog for quilters. As an established columnist, Helen has developed a tried-and-true quilting philosophy through 20 years of writing for Lady's Circle Patchwork Quilts and six years for the American Quilter magazine. She is a recognized authority on quilting patterns and has authored seven books of quilting designs and two CD-ROMs in the Dear Helen series. She is the Technical Advisor for the American Quilter's Society's television show, American Quilter, as well as Vice-President of Sales & Marketing for AQS.

A national and international quilt teacher, lecturer, and emcee of quilting events, Helen Squire is now booking speaking assignments for 2006-07 and beyond. Please contact her for a current fee schedule.
